How to choose one
Paper width
80mm is the standard counter width and gives more room per line; 58mm is narrower, often on compact or mobile printers, so match it to what the till's receipt template expects.
Connection
USB suits a single till PC, serial and LAN suit a shared or networked counter, and Bluetooth suits a mobile or handheld till with no fixed printer nearby.
Auto-cutter
An auto-cutter trims each receipt to length on its own; without one, the operator tears the paper off by hand after every sale.
Print speed
A faster print speed, measured in millimetres per second, matters most on a busy counter with long carts or a queue building up.
Drawer port
Most receipt printers carry a port that can pulse a cash drawer on print, so check the drawer's connector matches before buying the two together.
Paper supply
Confirm the roll size the printer takes and how easily it's found locally, since running out mid-queue stops sales until it's replaced.

About receipt printers
Does the receipt printer need a special driver?
On the web till, printing goes through the browser's own print dialog or its kiosk-printing mode; a planned Windows till will print directly over ESC/POS.
Can one printer handle a long cart with many lines?
Yes: the receipt is built to print as one continuous slip, however many lines are on the sale.
Will it also open my cash drawer?
Only if the drawer is wired through the printer's own drawer port; the printer itself doesn't decide when to open it.
Do you test specific receipt printer models?
