Hardware

Sends orders straight to the kitchen

A kitchen printer or kitchen display screen shows each fired order at the station that has to cook it, instead of a server carrying a paper ticket back. Any restaurant or fast-food counter that sends orders ahead of payment benefits from one. Start by deciding between a simple printed ticket and a full screen, then how many stations need their own.

How to choose one

Printer or screen

A printed ticket needs only a rugged kitchen printer and works even without a screen at the station; a display screen shows more at once and needs its own device.

Number of stations

Each station, such as grill or drinks, can have its own printer or screen, so a busy kitchen needs one per station rather than a single shared ticket.

Connection

A kitchen printer usually sits on the shop's network so any till can send to it; a screen needs a stable link to keep tickets appearing without delay.

Paper width

A kitchen ticket is usually the same 80mm width as a receipt, so check paper stock can be shared with the front counter if that matters.

Falls back to paper

A kitchen screen needs a working network link; a printed ticket keeps working even if that link drops.

With the software

Does it work with BixiCash?

Our restaurant demo sends a fired dish to its station's kitchen screen in under two seconds; the core restaurant module itself is still being built.

About kitchen printers & displays

Does every station need its own screen?

Print targets, including a kitchen screen or printer, are a configuration row per location, so a station can have its own without a redesign.

What happens if the kitchen screen loses connection?

A kitchen screen needs a hub or network link; where that's down, a printed ticket is the fallback so orders still reach the kitchen.

Is the kitchen display live in the core product today?

No: it's shown in our restaurant demo; the core restaurant module it depends on is still being built.

Can a long order still print as one ticket?

Yes: the same rule as receipts applies, so even a long order is built to print as one continuous ticket.
