Weighs an item and prices it by weight
A weighing scale weighs an item sold by weight, such as produce or meat, and can print a label or generate a barcode carrying the weight or price. Any counter selling loose goods by weight needs one, from a small shop scale to a full label-printing counter scale. Start by checking its maximum weight and whether it prints its own labels or just displays a reading.

How to choose one
Maximum weight and readability
Check the scale's maximum weight and its smallest reading step suit what's actually being weighed, from small spices to bulk produce.
Label printing
A label-printing scale prints a barcode with the weight or price built in; a plain scale only shows a reading that a person keys in.
Barcode format
If the scale prints its own barcode, check its prefix and digit layout matches what the till is configured to decode.
Connection
A standalone scale needs no connection at all; a live serial scale can feed a weight straight into the till, where supported.
Platform size
A larger weighing platform suits bulkier goods; a small platform suits a counter with limited space.
With the software
Does it work with BixiCash?
Planned: weight-embedded barcode parsing at the till, with live serial-scale support to follow; neither is built yet.

About weighing scales
Can the till read my scale's barcode today?
Not yet: parsing a scale's weight-embedded barcode is planned, with live serial-scale support to follow.
Does the till talk to the scale directly?
Not yet: a live serial scale connection is planned for later, alongside the weight-barcode support.
Do I need a label-printing scale?
Only if you want a barcode on the label itself; a plain scale still works if a person reads the weight and keys in the price.
Will you test specific scale models?
We only badge a device 'Tested with BixiCash' once we've actually tried it, and that tested list is still being built.
